Fireflies Festival at Kasara
With the onset of monsoons, i.e. between April to June every year, millions of fireflies light up the forests and the valley all around this quaint village; which is a biodiversity hotspot for fireflies – a phenomenon that will leave you awestruck.
Visit this beautiful mountain village just 4 hours from Mumbai. Experience the joy of serene valley views, rivers and forests. Watch a million fireflies camp in the mountains that surround you. Lie down under the stars. Devour simple yet wholesome freshly home-cooked meals on the fire oven, explore the beautiful rural surroundings, swim in a river, pluck and relish your own ripened mangoes, jamuns and local berries off the trees.
Daily Schedule
Day 1
7:30 am Pick-up from Mumbai
12 noon Traditional welcome at venue/ Tent allotment
1:00 pm Lunch at a village house
4:00 pm Black Tea and light snacks
5:00 pm Village walk and participation in rural activities (Sunset trek optional)
7:30 pm Early Dinner
8:30 pm Guided walks around the village to witness the magical fireflies
Day 2
6:00 am After a hot cup of black tea, sunrise walk to the dam
8:00 am Simple traditional breakfast served at a village household
10:00 am Engage in daily rural/ farm activities
11:00 am Pluck and relish ripened fruits from the trees
12 noon Go for a swim or just laze around the river
1:30 pm Hot meal served at the village house
2:30 pm Head back to Mumbai
Accommodation
Double or triple occupancy tents are pitched on the ground at the campsite. Clean mattresses, bedsheet, pillows and blankets are laid inside the tents. Western washrooms are available at the campsites. For all practical purposes, this is a campsite. Please carry your own toiletries, soap, sanitizer, paper towels, toilet paper and footwear suitable for a rough terrain.
Consumption of alcohol, drugs or smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere within the village or campsites.
Food
When you are at the village, your simple vegetarian meals are freshly cooked and served by a local family who will host you in their house for meals. The village houses are simple, basic and rustic tribal homes. Customized menu options are not available. Traditionally, people sit on the floor or at the verandah and enjoy their meals.
Tea served here is traditionally black tea infused with lemongrass. Milk is not available for consumption here due to a cultural belief that the cow’s milk is meant for the calf only. If you need milk in your tea, it is suggested to bring your milk or milk powder or cream or coffee sachets alongwith as per your preference.
It is recommended to carry along your bottled drinking water for the overnight stay as the village is far away from the main city shops.
Things To Note
This is an empowerment project. Your trip is providing livelihoods to the community. From stay to guides, to food and overall functioning of the project is run and managed solely by the local communities. The community is your host. Kindly treat them with respect. Please avoid asking them to carry your luggage, look after your children or run errands for you or your family/ friends. We also kindly request you to not give any tips or gifts to the villagers. The communities respectfully earn their livelihood through hard work. This is not an occasion for charity.

The most number of fireflies I have ever seen!! This was unlike any other trip that i've taken so far in my life. You get to experience not just the villagers hospitality and their traditions but also their food, which just keeps getting better with every bite you take. There's something magical about that place, the scenic beauty, the fresh air, the stars, the fireflies or maybe just the awesome company that you have, etches the beautiful memory in your brain. 200% would recommend.
We thoroughly enjoyed the fireflies festival. We were a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids aged 4 and 2.5). My kids loved the whole experience and would strongly consider doing another rustic village trip. Booking the trip was a easy and seamless process. The camp setup is basic but well done. Highlight of the trip has to be the ample Firefly sightings.. simply amazing!! We loved the simple basic home meals at the villagers house and our interactions with them. Activities arranged around the village were fun too.

This was a good and very different experience even from the usual trekking and camping done by me in the past. One gets to live and appreciate the basic living in the villages. The surroundings are very raw and rustic, so be prepared for this. We were taken around to see the dam and also did a beautiful Sunset point hike. After dinner, we were taken for the fireflies walk which was the main highlight of the trip. We had a good sighting of the fireflies. Literally a million of them all around us.

The fireflies can be spotted around the onset of monsoons i.e. between April to June every year. Therefore, to ensure the best experience for our guests, this is a seasonal trip that is active only during these months.
It is recommended to make your booking/s at least 3 months in advance in order to ensure a spot at the program of your choice.
Once a booking is made and confirmed by us, it cannot be cancelled or rescheduled for whatsoever reasons. Please be sure of your travel plan, dates and package before making the booking/s with us.
All payments are made through a secure payment link that will be shared with you via e-mail during our booking correspondence. A booking will be confirmed only after the 100% amount is received in our account.
The prices mentioned are all inclusive for the respective package/s viz. choice of wellness program, accommodation, meals for the duration of the scheduled stay, airport transfers, and activities mentioned in the daily schedule. There are no hidden costs.
However, should you undertake additional local outings (that are not already mentioned as part of the planned program) or purchases or decide to enroll in any additional program/s directly at the venue or decide to extend your stay – in such scenarios, you will need to bear all additional expenses at actuals; payable directly at the venue.
